MMM MMM Good!
I felt led to boast in the goodness of the Lord for this post. It didn’t dawn on me that it would be Good Friday when this releases. Good Friday was the day our Lord and Savior, Jesus, laid down his life. I say that purposefully because in John 10:18 Jesus said “No one takes it from me, but I lay it down on my own. I have the right to lay it down, and I have the right to take it up again. I have received this command from my Father.”
We know from the text that he was beaten, torchered, mocked and a host of other things but we are very clear that he willingly allowed all of that to happen and that he had the power and authority to wipe them all out with a thought! (Whew! I felt that!) It wasn’t the nails that held him there but his obedience to the Father and love for us!
Why didn’t he though? It was because he knew what the Father sent him to do. Lay down his life for the sins of the world. When we think of the events of Good Friday we should ponder how it can be called “GOOD”. That’s the tension of this post. No matter circumstantially happens in our life God is immutably GOOD. He has no way of making a bad or wrong decision. We can’t Fathom that in our human minds. We must allow our minds to be shaped by the Word of God as we reflect and think on God’s character and nature.
Here’s a few scriptures that declare his goodness:
Psalm 34:8 “Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.”
Psalm 107:1 “Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.”
Mark 10:18 "And Jesus said to him, "Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone."
Psalm 86:5 "For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, And abundant in loving kindness to all who call upon You."
Psalm 100:5 "For the LORD is good; His loving kindness is everlasting And His faithfulness to all generations."
1 Chronicles 16:34 "O give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; For His loving kindness is everlasting."
As I’m typing these scriptures I’m overwhelmed with his goodness. There are tons more of course. I want to end with this. His goodness is not predicated on the situations of life but on the fact that he’s God. Rest in that today. Find refuge in that. We can hope in our good God. He sent his son to save us and redeem us. He will return for us and we will be with him forever! Wow! Praise the Lord!
