These past few days in Florida we’ve been dealing with Hurricane Ian. It’s definitely uncomfortable navigating through all the uncertainty and hoping for the best knowing that there would be damage for some people. Thankfully the area that I live in only experienced minor damage like trees falling in the street and things being tossed around. God is faithful and so grateful for all that checked in on me.
All around the state, the cleaning crews are busy working and the city feels this sense of peace when there was noise and chaos from the winds and rains only hours ago. During the storm, so many verses were flowing through my head. Philippians 4:6-7 was a constant one:
“Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”
I was reminded that peace is a person and his name is Jesus. I was reminded that all things can be going crazy around me but if I abide and run to him he calms the inside of me. The word “guard” in that verse is a military term. It’s like military troops stationed around your heart and mind and is commanded to stay in place. That’s such a beautiful picture of how much God desires for us to live in peace. I want to encourage you who are reading this to allow God to surpass your understanding with his peace. Allow the word to transform your mind and help you to look to Jesus when things around you are falling apart. He’s our firm foundation. If we have him, we have all we need for life. He is life.
Love you each
Until next time
Demetrius
